George Condo came to painting with a background in art history and music theory, and the barreling energy of his work pulls signs and symbols, the past and the perverse, into paintings that can be seen as portraiture. The Long Museum galleries are the setting for Condo’s largest-ever exhibition in Asia, and curator Massimiliano Gioni has conceived the show of 200 paintings as if it were the collection of an aristocratic family. —E.C.
