George Condo: Internal Riot

Nov 5, 2020 – Jan 23, 2021
542 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10011, United States

Last spring, in an online exhibition, George Condo presented “Drawings for Distanced Figures.” In pencil, ink, and crayon on paper, Condo drew paranoid Cubist figures with multiple eyes. In his new exhibition at Hauser & Wirth, Condo continues to plumb the conflicting emotions and uncertainty that have come to define these times. Fractured faces are painted with thick lines, coated in bold and often contrasting colors. The figures are similar to Condo’s recent drawings, but the eyes are larger and the mouths are agape, revealing sets of unnerving, glimmering teeth. —E.C.
