George Condo

George Condo, The Portable Artist, 1995.

Until Feb 8, 2026
11 Avenue du Président Wilson, 75116 Paris, France

George Condo came to painting with a background in art history and music theory. The barreling energy of his work fuses signs and symbols, the past and the perverse, into paintings that can be read as portraiture. Condo moved to New York City in 1979, when he was 22. The city was not only recovering from near bankruptcy, but the art scene was on fire. Condo landed a job working with Andy Warhol in his silkscreen studio. Before long, he was part of a circle that included Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. In this show, the museum revisits more than four decades of Condo’s practice with 80 paintings and 110 drawings. —Elena Clavarino
