In 1927, when he was in his late teens, Francis Bacon saw the work of Picasso and decided to become a painter. For the rest of his life he competed with the Spanish master—trying to be in the second half of the 20th century what Picasso had been in the first. This exhibition at the Albertina presents 70 works by the two artists. Echoes bounce between distorted figures, frozen screams, crucifixions, and nude bodies reconstructed.
