The brother and sister Thomas and Doris Ammann opened the doors to Thomas Ammann Fine Art in 1977, when Pop art was taking New York by storm and Warhol reigned. In the 1980s, the pair saw and admired the work of Francesco Clemente, a young Italian artist whose ink drawings channeled dreams and memories from his childhood in Naples. When Thomas Ammann died in 1993, his sister Doris took over the gallery and continued to identify great art. Clemente artworks owned by the siblings make up this exhibition, which includes paintings from the artist’s most celebrated series, “The Fourteen Stations.” —Elena Clavarino
