Fotografie: Wolfgang Schulz And The Photo Scene Around 1980

July 16 – Oct 11, 2020
Jebensstraße 2, 10623 Berlin, Germany

The German magazine, FOTOGRAFIE: Zeitschrift internationaler Fotokunst put photography back on the map in the 1980s. Suddenly the medium saw an international surge in popularity. New approaches were explored, museums began purchasing photographs for their collections, and photo galleries popped up. Under the editorship of the controversial Wolfgang Schulz, FOTOGRAFIE became the world’s foremost photo publication, producing 40 issues between 1977 and 1985. Along with an array of images from the magazine, all 40 issues are presented in this exhibition—a snapshot of an important moment in the history of photography. —E.C.
