In the 1960s, as the meticulous ensembles and coiffed hair of the 50s gave way to tie-dyes and dreadlocks, the art world began to shift from Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art—a movement rooted in consumer culture and mass media. In France, artists gravitated towards Nouveau Realisme, a group that counted Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely, and Niki de Sainte Phalle as members. This exhibition, which presents works from the Pinault collection, focuses on that tumultuous decade. —Elena Clavarino
