Although the Ancient Mayas forged one of the most advanced civilizations in history, their actual culture receives little institutional attention in America. To remedy this, the Blanton Museum of Art is presenting “Forces of Nature,” 200 works of classical Maya art (250–900 C.E.) that depict the relationship between the royal courts of Ancient Maya and their supernatural entities. On loan from LACMA, these artworks reveal the complexity of power and politics in Ancient Maya. —Lucy Horowitz
