Teak lounge chairs and minimalist daybeds, the hallmarks of Danish furniture, are popular in the United States thanks to Finn Juhl. In the 1950s, the Danish interior and furniture designer brought his country’s aesthetic—sleek, simple, functional—to America. “A chair is not just a product of decorative art in a space,” said Juhl, “it is a form and a space in itself.” An exhibition at the Tokyo Art Museum pays homage to Juhl’s chairs. Along with historical background on Danish design, several original pieces are on display. —Jensen Davis
