Femme Fatale: Gaze, Power, Gender

John William Waterhouse, Circe Offering the Cup to Ulysses, 1891.

Dec 9, 2022 – Apr 10, 2023
Glockengießerwall 5, 20095 Hamburg, Germany

From the Bible to the #MeToo movement, the figure of the femme fatale has endured. At Hamburger Kunsthalle, the female force in its many forms is the subject of an exhibition that looks critically at the stereotype and analyzes its visual codes. With work from artists including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edvard Munch, Édouard Manet, Dodo, Nan Goldin, and Mickalene Thomas, the femme fatale is seen in all her many embodiments. —Clara Molot
