Yes, it’s two hours and 45 minutes. Yes, it stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh, almost certainly an oversaturation of celebrity clout. Yes, the first film was basically world-building stretched to fill the length of a feature film. And yet, against all odds, Dune: Part Two is a fantasy epic for the ages. Chalamet is the perfect Paul Atreides, the rightful Duke of Arrakis and the reluctant Messiah to the Fremen. Butler is terrifying and utterly unrecognizable as Feyd-Rautha, the deranged nephew of Baron Harkonnen (played by Stellan Skarsgard). The supporting cast is no less impressive—Rebecca Ferguson is a powerhouse in the role of Lady Jessica, Lea Seydoux is magnetic in her short appearance as the Bene Gesserit Lady Margot Fenring, and Javier Bardem manages to inject a modicum of humor as the zealous Fremen lieutenant Stilgar. Go see this film. You’d be surprised how quickly 165 minutes goes by. —Paulina Prosnitz
