Didier William was born in 1983 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Looking for a different life, his family soon moved to Miami, where he was raised on the city’s north side. As William grew up, he became preoccupied with immigration, Afro-Caribbean history, and otherness. William creates powerful paintings that often feature mottled human figures, their skin a pattern of tight-knit eyes—vodou symbolism from the Caribbean. This solo show presents his latest series, “Things Like This Don’t Happen Here.” —Elena Clavarino
