“I’ve been in rage all my life at this thing we call ‘society,’” said David Wojnarowicz (pronounced voyna-ROH-vitch). Only 37 when he died of AIDS, in 1992, his fury over social and political injustice lives on in his art. This major retrospective contains work that ranges from collage to painting to photomontage to film. Wojnarowicz preferred a multimedia approach, never settling on one discipline. It’s yet another way he stayed true to his outsider status. —E.C.
