Short of unearthing the sounds that boomed and buzzed in the caves of Lascaux, it would be hard to find a deeper dive into French music—from Lully to Satie, from “Ne me quitte pas” to “Born to Be Alive”—than is offered by this now brooding, now bristling jazz trio of sax, guitar, and drums.
