The Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi (1904–1988) made art that seemed to rise out of the natural world. He carved basalt and granite, wood and sheet metal, forming these raw materials into seamless creations. The Vietnamese artist Dahn Vo, who fled war-ravaged Vietnam as a child, creates installations that address human themes of identity, culture, and belonging. The Korean artist Park Seo-Bo, as father of the “Dansaekhwa” movement, draws Taoist and Buddhist philosophy into Korean calligraphy. In conjunction with the 59th Venice Biennale, and curated by Vo himself, this exhibition places these three masters together in the Querini palace’s hallowed halls. —Elena Clavarino
