Daisy Hightower: An Installation by Rosalyn Myles

Jan 30 – May 8, 2022
5814 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036, USA

Rosalyn Myles, the Los Angeles-based multimedia artist, grew up just off Interstate 110—between Compton and Gardena. Her life in East Los Angeles serves as inspiration for collages, photographs, and sculptures, creations that are “visual accounts of interesting or important moments that have happened to me or others in my community.” This community is largely made of women whose daily activities— sewing, scrapbooking, cooking, knitting, and weaving—are dismissed as “women’s work.” Myles’s newest installation is an homage to her grandmother, Daisy Hightower, whose life spanned most of the 20th century. She uses materials her grandmother used—tablecloths, wallpapers, curtains—to tell Hightower’s story, which is the story of the “Everywoman.” —Jensen Davis
