For those who believe that the English and the French have never gotten along, you may want to look at this year’s BAFTA results. The British awards show did not select the popular Succession, The Bear, Beef, or The Last of Us for best international show, but Class Act, created by Olivier Demangel and Tristan Séguéla. Set between 1967 and 1997, the French biopic takes us through the ups and downs of Bernard Tapie’s career. Born into a working-class family, Tapie (Laurent Lafitte) became a businessman, politician, and the owner of the Olympique de Marseille football club. Across the seven episodes, we see him ambitiously climb the ranks of French society’s hierarchy; then we witness his downfall. Surprisingly low in football content (considering Tapie’s obsession with the sport), the show is perfect for fans of period clothing, hairstyles, and cars. —Jeanne Malle
