Sir Christopher Le Brun was born in Portsmouth, England, in 1951. After an extensive education in the arts, he took it upon himself to lecture at art schools such as the UCL Slade, Chelsea, and Wimbledon Schools of Fine Art. Known as one of the leading British painters of his generation—Le Brun was knighted in 2021 for his “services to the arts”—his abstract and figurative work in painting and printmaking have garnered international recognition. In this new exhibition, Le Brun shows works that respond to the enigma of light and color found in both sunrise and sunset. “I’m not using the painting to record my views,” says Le Brun. “I’m interacting with the painting and in the process, finding something out.” —Maggie Turner
