Carl Craig, the Detroit-based D.J. whom Pitchfork calls an “electronic music pioneer,” is moving into the art world. In Dia Beacon’s lower level, Craig generates a sonic sound environment. It’s a nod to the site’s former occupant, the Nabisco packaging company. The revamp is symbolic of the techno world and its tradition of repurposing former industrial warehouses for rave parties. In a chilling installation, Craig recreates the euphoria of the club atmosphere, while hinting at the loneliness that remains when the crowd dissipates. —E.C.
