“I find the virtual world more interesting,” the Chinese installation artist Cao Fei told The White Review in 2016. “I really mean that. I can walk around, overhear conversations, speak to anyone I like. I feel freer there.” Not surprisingly, Cao Fei’s installations evoke parallel worlds and virtual realities, realms in which she constructs social experiments and fictional cities. Often looking to the future, she depicts globalization’s dramatic effects. In this exhibition, works from the 2000s to the present day are on view. —Elena Clavarino
