Canvas Gallery Fall Exhibitions

Oct 8 – Dec 12, 2019
D-40 / 1-A, Block 4 , Clifton, Kehkashan، Block 4 Clifton, Karachi, Karachi City, Sindh, Pakistan

Since its founding in 1999, Canvas Gallery, based in Karachi, Pakistan, has established itself as one of the country’s leading spaces to showcase contemporary Pakistani art. Here’s their fall-winter schedule. First up is a solo show of work by Pakistani-Australian artist Nazia Ejaz, on view from October 8 to 17. Ejaz, a daughter of the famous singer Nur Jehan, is fascinated by the environment and our perception of it, as well as broader questions of identity. From October 22 to 31, the gallery presents work by the Karachi-based Fatima Munir Amjad, whose awareness of living in “one of the most dangerous cities of the world”—her words— informs much of her art, including cladding weapons in beguiling textiles. November brings two more solo shows: Ayaz Jokhio, who uses a variety of mediums, from print to installation to drawing and painting (November 5 to 14), and painter Sara Riaz Khan (November 19 to 28). Sculptor Nausheen Saeed shows from December 3 to 12. Her provocative feminist take is one reason why Pakistani contemporary art is so exciting these days. —Gayatri Rangachari Shah
