Born in America and now based in Norway, Camille Norment is a composer and sculptor who’s fused her artistic disciplines. She’s even created a term for her work—“cultural psychoacoustics”—the investigation of sociocultural phenomena through sound and music. Norment is currently focused on three tones—the bell, feedback, and the sine wave. “Plexus,” a site-specific commission at Dia Chelsea, presents separate sculptural installations in the two galleries. At 545 West 22nd Street, Norment thinks critically about Manhattan’s maritime history. At 541 West 22nd Street, her three tones respond to viewers moving through the gallery space. —Clara Molot
