Brassaï’s camera left none of Paris unseen. The French photographer of Hungarian descent, née Gyula Halász, made a name for himself by capturing all aspects of Parisian life, from arts and letters—ballerinas, opera singers, intellectuals, plus his friends Picasso, Dalí, and Matisse—to the underclass of the French capital, the prostitutes and street cleaners. This exhibition, the first in the Netherlands dedicated to Brassaï, focuses on the the iconic photographer’s range, with more than 150 vintage prints divided thematically in categories such as “Paris By Day, By Night,” “Body of a Woman,” “Artists, Writers, Friends,” and “The Street.” —J.V.
