A historic house museum on 68 “pollinator-friendly” acres across the Hudson from West Point, Boscobel has given new life to the mansion built by States Dyckman and his wife Elizabeth at the dawn of the 19th century. As Loyalists, the Dyckmans knew full well that they were on the wrong side of history. Still, they cultivated their very own dream of England. By 1955, a wrecker closed on the property for $35. Cue the preservationists! In they charged, with lots of dough from Lila Acheson Wallace, co-founder of Reader’s Digest, and commenced reconstruction 15 miles upriver. Long a magnet for lovers of classy period Americana, Boscobel now embarks on musical adventures in partnership with the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach under the artistic directorship of the violinist Arnaud Sussman. Four concerts spread over two weekends feature outstanding classical instrumentalists in thoughtfully curated, though decidedly conservative, programs both indoors and al fresco. Featured composers include Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Vaughan Williams, and Ravel. —Matthew Gurewitsch
