A school-bus driver (female), convicted of molesting nursery-schoolers. Three Black teenagers imprisoned for 19 years on a murder charge based on nothing but their gender and race. These plus two other characters are at the heart of Blind Injustice, a new opera based on casework by the Ohio Innocence Project at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Adapting their stories of hope and exoneration for the lyric stage seems a frightening lift, but the librettist David Cote and the composer Scott Davenport Richards have accepted the challenge.
