Most people remember J. M. W. Turner for his turbulent seascapes and majestic landscapes. But in his sketchbook, Turner also experimented with daily life, recording fleeting moments and houseshold objects, not to mention—and it hasn’t been—his sexual fantasies. This exhibition brings forth Turner’s more intimate drawings, including his naked lovers. Some are penciled in hurriedly while others are carefully painted in watercolors. His on-again-off-again companion, the enigmatic Sophia Booth, is the subject of a series. —Elena Clavarino
