In recent decades, giant steps to counter inequality have changed the conversation around the world. But for women who grew up during the still sexist 1950s, 60s, and 70s, the outlook on life was very different. This exhibition focuses on the work of 16 established female artists—ages 71 to 105—among them Phyllida Barlow, Anna Boghiguian, and Beatriz González. Diverse in their backgrounds, these women pursued their creative paths vehemently and they prevailed. The paintings, videos, sculptures, and installations on view celebrate their unshakable strength. —E.C.
