The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen’s connection to Brazil is little known, but as strong as ever. Back in the 1970s, Peter and Christiane Schaufler-Münch, the institution’s founders, lived in Sao Paolo, where they began collecting and displaying art that was experiential and interactive. Looking to Brazil, this exhibition in Stuttgart features the work of Vivian Caccuri, Lucia Koch, and Henrique Oliviera. The museum, a former factory, transforms itself into an installation, complete with soundscapes, colossal sculptures, and sensorial light fixtures. “I believe that sound and music are the hardware that surround these cultures,” Caccuri has said. “They’ve the power to synthesize a moment of the body.” As the modern world skews increasingly virtual, this exhibition recalls our innate fascination with the palpable, the tactile. —Maggie Turner
