Eric Garner said “I can’t breathe” 11 times before he was released from NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo’s illegal chokehold. In spite of the coroner’s report, which ruled Garner’s death a homicide, Pantaleo was never charged with a crime. Turning the theater into a jury box, this film stages the trial that never happened, bringing together eyewitnesses, Garner’s friends, his widow, and experts on deadly force and other relevant topics.
