Aïda Muluneh: The Art of Advocacy

Aïda Muluneh, Burden of the Day, 2018.

Jan 12 – Feb 24, 2023
13 - 7 19 Street - Al Quoz - Dubai - United Arab Emirates

If you look far across an African desert, you may think you see water on the horizon. As you walk toward it, however, the water will keep moving farther away. The Bedouins know it’s nothing but a cruel illusion—a mirage created by the hot sun hitting the sand. In her series “Water Life,” the African photographer Aïda Muluneh focuses on the issue of water access in rural regions of Africa, where the precious compound is often procured by wives and mothers who travel on foot. Muluneh is known for her striking images of women dressed in traditional garb and located in surreal settings. This exhibition presents works from “Water Life,” as well as pieces from a more recent series, “The Road of Glory.” —Elena Clavarino
