Joe Nocera’s first venture into podcasting, The Shrink Next Door (2019), was personal—his neighbor, a psychiatrist, had been accused of abusing his relationships with his patients. The podcast was a resounding success, being adapted within a year into an Apple TV special starring Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. Nocera now returns with a decidedly less personal but no less interesting topic: the 1922 alleged murder of Kitty Armstrong in the small town of Hay-on-Wye, Wales, said to have inspired Agatha Christie’s short story The Cornish Mystery (1923). Nocera investigates the case, which has long captivated the British psyche, while simultaneously telling the fascinating story of Christie herself. Including interviews with Christie’s great-grandson, the Christie biographer Lucy Worsley, and the current inhabitants of Kitty Armstrong’s house, Agatha Christie & the Dandelion Poisoner weaves together two compelling narratives with expert finesse. —Paulina Prosnitz
