Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery

Oct 30, 2026 – June 20, 2027
96 Euston Rd, London NW1 2DB, United Kingdom

Even 50 years after her death, Agatha Christie remains “the queen of crime.” The British author wrote over 80 novels and short stories, which have sold in the billions and been made into films by such directors as Billy Wilder, Sidney Lumet, and Kenneth Branaugh. Only volumes of Shakespeare and the Bible have seen more publications than Christie’s oeuvre, and characters such as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple have set an indelible standard within the genre. To mark the anniversary of her death, a new exhibition transforms spaces at the British Library into corners of Christie’s universe, from a carriage on the Orient Express to an ancient archaeological site. Amid other easter eggs, items on display include the author’s 1937 Remington typewriter, personal photographs from Hawaii and Egypt, and a typescript of House of Beauty, Christie’s first short story, written when she was 18. —Maggie Turner
