In “Senlin: A Biography” (1918), the poet Conrad Aiken looked through his window at a world ravaged by war and a pandemic and wrote, “The earth revolves with me, yet makes no motion, / The stars pale silently in a coral sky. / In a whistling void I stand before my mirror, / Unconcerned, I tie my tie.” In a world that is revolving, yet at the same time standing still, we go about our daily rituals with restless diligence. Pace Gallery’s online exhibition, “A Swiftly Tilting Planet,” curated by Adam Sheffer and Oliver Shultz, takes its title from Aiken’s poem.
