The luminous Julia Bullock, soprano, curates a program of music by Florence Price and her student, collaborator, and friend Margaret Bonds. Trained in Western classical music but true to their heritage of African-American styles and forms, Price and Bonds developed comparable yet distinctive voices. In this unusual program, symphonic fare alternates with piano-accompanied songs and music for organ. Lidiya Yankovskaya leads the LA Phil in the orchestral pieces. The vocalists are Michelle Bradley and Jasmine White, with Michelle Cann at the keyboard. —Matthew Gurewitsch
