The luminous Julia Bullock, soprano, curates a program of music by Florence Price and her student, collaborator, and friend Margaret Bonds. Trained in Western classical music but true to their heritage of African-American styles and forms, Price and Bonds developed comparable yet distinctive voices. In this unusual program, symphonic fare alternates with piano-accompanied songs and music for organ. Lidiya Yankovskaya leads the LA Phil in the orchestral pieces.
