A Doll's House

June 10–13, 2020
Northumberland Ave, Charing Cross, London WC2N 5DE, United Kingdom

The American actress Jessica Chastain has become known for film roles that skirt tradition: in The Help she plays one of the few non-racist white women in the American South, and in Molly’s Game she’s one of the few females in the high-stakes gambling world of men. Now Chastain makes her London stage debut as Nora in Jamie Lloyd’s production of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, which sees a wife and mother rebelling against societal norms of the time. “I have been your doll-wife,” Nora says to her husband, “just as at home I used to be papa’s doll-child. And the children, in their turn, have been my dolls.” —J.V.
