The Big Reveal

Amy Griffin, a venture investor who supports female-led start-ups, including K18, Saie, Rōz Hair, Khaite, Supergoop!, Westman Atelier, and Starface, is also a philanthropist and prominent figure on the New York social scene, where she shows how it’s done in a Schiaparelli gown. But she has a secret, one she didn’t unearth until undergoing MDMA-assisted therapy. The long-buried trauma that resurfaces is the subject of Griffin’s gracefully written memoir, The Tell. The story that unfolds is suspenseful as Griffin takes the reader along with her discovery and wrestles with the resulting grief and fury in her quest for some kind of resolution. It’s become almost hackneyed to call a woman’s story of abuse “brave,” but it fits in Griffin’s case. It’s just like Griffin, whom I’m lucky to call a friend, to write such a generous book. The fact that she emerges with her kindness and optimism intact is a true triumph. ($26.10, amazon.com) —Linda Wells

I’ve long ago abandoned hope that anything except Fraxel and a scalpel could mitigate some of the damage wrought by a sunscreen-free childhood. But Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Face Serum has been keeping things from getting radically worse for the past 15 years. Its key ingredient is a prebiotic that provides a warm and cozy environment for the good bacteria, which help protect the skin barrier. Now Lancôme has upped the game with Génifique Ultimate, a new formulation that includes beta-glucan, an ingredient known for retaining the skin’s moisture. (It’s so effective that it’s used on wounds.) I’m still plagued by hyper-pigmentation, but my moisture-doused fine lines are less pronounced. I’ll take what I can get! Treat Yourself

If you’re looking for a sugar fix, may we suggest something that won’t jack up your glucose levels? It’s the new makeup collaboration between Estée Lauder and Ladurée, home of the pastel-colored macarons. With lip oils called Glacé, Sucré, and Rosé, two lipsticks in rose and brownish pink, and an eye-shadow palette filled with mostly pink or brown frosted powders named after bonbons (Sugared Almond, Marzipan), it’s the girliest thing going. The collection looks like the one that used to be sold in Japan called Les Merveilleuses Ladurée and was discontinued. When I saw it on a trip to Tokyo 10 years ago, I witnessed shoppers crowding the counter at Isetan, the Japanese department store, and actually squealing with excitement. Now we can partake in the pleasure of matching our lipstick to our dessert. Sweet! (from $45, esteelauder.com) —Linda Wells

Weekend update: S.N.L’s Colin Jost loves a good Pilates session with Scarlett Johansson. And you’ll find them—but please don’t be creepy about it—at Marieva Malo’s new Upper East Side studio. Malo, a former beloved instructor at the referral-only Forma Pilates and founder of the popular online mat-workout platform the Way, has now mastered the fine art of making men want to come to Pilates classes. Maybe it’s the crown moldings, fireplace, or midcentury-modern furniture in her studio at 74th Street and Madison (it’s not), or maybe it’s Malo’s ability to meet her clients at their skill level. It also helps that there aren’t a slew of people preening and taking mirror selfies before, during, and after class, and that Malo looks a bit like Emily Ratajkowksi. Golden Touch

There are many reasons to praise retinol, the vitamin-A derivative that speeds skin-cell turnover, increases collagen production, unclogs pores, and reduces hyper-pigmentation, fine lines, and overall angst. But no one said it was luxurious. That’s where Clé de Peau’s new Precious Gold Vitality Serum comes in. It contains that old workhorse, retinol, along with actual 24-karat gold (It’s an antioxidant! Who knew?), hyaluronic acid, and lovely extracts, including lily, ginkgo biloba, and peony root. Apply it to clean skin at night and feel free to call it pampering. Stick with Me

Those of us with “the hooded eye”—a downer term for heavy eyelids that are inhospitable to makeup—are used to social media serving us all sorts of ways to improve them. (Surgery! Botox! Deep-plane facelifts!) Bobbi Brown, on the other hand, has our backs. Her latest Jones Road launch, the Gel Liner, was designed to liberate us from smudging and creasing. Water- and transfer-resistant, this creamy gel (ideally applied using her new Precision Eyeliner Brush) glides on easily and doesn’t require exceptionally fine motor skills. And, miraculously, it stays put all day, as I confirmed when re-creating the cat’s-eye swoop on Elle Fanning’s character in A Complete Unknown. Go on, shed a few tears of joy—this liner can handle it. ($30 for the Gel Liner and $22 for the Precision Eyeliner Blush, jonesroadbeauty.com) —Ashley Baker

Make Your Mark

Ever since my Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit days, I’ve found it perplexing and borderline offensive that lip liners—one of the few makeup products that women often reapply during nights out—require the same level of precision as eye liners. How can anyone expect to achieve the perfect, full pout in a dimly lit restaurant or Uber back seat? “It’s dark, so nobody will notice” has been the closest thing to a work-around until Hailey Bieber’s Rhode created contouring lip shapers. Unlike typical liners, these pens are creamy and forgiving, with a wider tip that allows you to sculpt your ideal lip shape. Plus, the silicon smudger on the end can clean up anywhere you get a little too Van Gogh. There are 11 shades, from light pink to deep brown; I like Press for an everyday pink, and Flex, a cool brown, for a full contour. Mwah! ($24, rhodeskin.com)
