Jake Shane won over the Internet by balancing comedy with vulnerability: he speaks openly about his struggle with O.C.D. and his quest for a boyfriend. His general likability, along with that mix of humor and honesty, makes the 24-year-old an engaging interviewer on his podcast, Therapuss. Guests include Charli XCX, Glen Powell, and Reneé Rapp—all of whom seem to be his friends. On the eve of his 21-city live tour, Shane details his nighttime routine, his love of depuffing, and his need for chill. —Clara Molot

WHEN DO YOU START GETTING READY FOR BED?
Nine P.M.

TAKE US THROUGH YOUR NIGHTTIME SKIN-CARE ROUTINE.
If I’m feeling really dirty, I’ll do Rhode’s Pineapple Refresh Daily Cleanser. I then use the Water Sleeping Mask from Laneige. And that’s it.

DO YOU ADD ANY STEPS WHEN YOU’RE SHOOTING A PODCAST?
I try not to drink the night before so I’m not puffy. I try to do a cold plunge or cryotherapy the day before to depuff. And I try to drink a lot of water.

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU HAVE TO DO BEFORE BED?
There’s a few things. I have this mattress called an Eight Sleep that they so kindly gifted me. I would have never gotten it on my own accord, but now that I have it, I actually would. I have to turn it to the maximum coldest setting. I’m also very O.C.D. So I have to plug in my phone before I get into bed. I have to make sure any coffee in my room is thrown out, my wallet and my headphones are in the proper place, my jewelry is off, and my shoes are off … obviously. And the air conditioner is on and the fan is on.

DO YOU TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENTS OR MEDICATIONS?
I usually smoke a joint and take a melatonin after that.

ON TO YOUR PAJAMAS …
Eberjey are my favorite pajamas in the whole wide world. I was a big Roller Rabbit guy for the longest time. And then I got into Eberjey recently, and they’ve just been fucking my shit up. You have no idea.

ARE YOU PARTICULAR ABOUT YOUR SLEEP CONDITIONS?
I sleep on the lowest my A/C has to offer. So I go 62 degrees on my A/C, and I put my fan on the highest speed. I must be freezing cold. If I am hot at all, I’m not sleeping. It’s a restless night.

HOW ABOUT YOUR BED?
I turn my Eight Sleep to negative 10. I have four pillows. Two are bamboo fabric from Cozy Earth. And then I use two Slip silk pillowcases.

DO YOU WATCH ANYTHING BEFORE BED?
I’ve got to get my mind somewhere else, because if I’m in bed, I’m just thinking too hard and I’m never falling asleep. So, TV always. Recently, it’s been this season of Love Island USA. I’m also watching A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder on Netflix, which is good, but I definitely fall asleep.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO FALL ASLEEP?
My Eight Sleep says 30 minutes, but that can’t be true. I think it takes me about two to three hours every night to fall asleep.

WHERE’S YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO SLEEP?
If my friend Alice’s room is cold, it’s my best friend Alice’s house. Her bed is just really comfy, and I like sleeping with my friends. If we’re really, really, really getting into it, the Aman in New York has the best beds I’ve ever slept in in my life.

WHAT’S THE BEST NIGHT’S SLEEP YOU’VE EVER HAD?
It must have been a Covid sleep when I was like, “I don’t need to fucking wake up. I’m going to bed at six A.M. and I can wake up in two weeks, and no one cares.”
