In 1969, sun lotion was just a moisturizer in a brown bottle and the word “tan” was usually preceded by “healthy.” Julie Newmar, the actress best known for playing Catwoman, models the bronze-goddess look in this ad for Coppertone. Despite the copy, this doesn’t give you or anyone else a better tan, a faster tan, or a richer tan, because those are fictions. It also doesn’t give you maximum protection.
