It’s not often that a new fragrance stops me dead in my tracks. But that’s precisely what happened during Paris Fashion Week at a preview for the new Frédéric Malle perfume developed in collaboration with Acne Studios. The two brands joined hands (or, rather, noses) to create an olfactory masterpiece that is elegant, eccentric, and unexpectedly comforting. The blend of rose, violet, and orange blossom with vanilla and peach against a background of aldehydes—which smell slightly like almonds—make it crisp and subtly fresh. With the addition of sandalwood, musk, and frankincense, it acquires a heady moodiness. Pistachio has moved enticingly from gelato to milk to fragrance to skin care. And that’s where we come in. We’re recent converts to Irene Forte’s Pistachio Face Mask, made with ingredients from an organic farm in Sicily, home to some of the sweetest, plumpest, and most vibrantly colored pistachios in the world. My quest for the perfect water bottle has been long and unsatisfying. Nalgenes don’t keep things cold; Hydro Flasks make water taste like metal. Stanley Cups have a nice straw feature, but Dakota Johnson sipping her “big dumb cup” on Saturday Night Live ruined it for me. Owala’s FreeSip bottle just might be perfect. The straw prevents my teeth from bumping on the metal rim, the thought of which sends a shiver down my spine. The bottle is stainless steel, which makes it simple to clean and doesn’t leave any residual taste. Unlike 99.9 percent of skin-care brands, Vintner’s Daughter doesn’t launch a new formula every other minute just to feed the TikTok beast. “We move at the speed of quality,” April Gargiulo, the company’s founder, says. When the thermostat climbs to 80, the only makeup I’m wearing is lipstick. But the saturated, matte formulations I rely on in the winter just won’t do. It’s time to transition to Tom Ford’s new Soleil Ultra-Shine Lip Color range. These lightweight balms moisturize with vitamin E and chamomile-flower oil, giving the lips a sexy, summery sheen. And they’re infused with enough color to look and feel like proper makeup. My favorite shades—Plage Nue, a peachy light pink, and Rose Irisé, a warm berry—seem destined to be worn to a French Bloom–fueled lunch at Cheval Blanc St. Tropez. Anyone who finds sunscreen boring needs to do some shopping because each new entrant is zippier than the last. The latest group is from Sol de Janeiro, maker of the evocative, tropical-scented body products. The Rio Radiance collection offers three formulations in the delicious scents—coconut milk, tuberose, vanilla, amber—of vacation. The spray, lotion, and oil all have S.P.F. 50, so you won’t suffer from the same sun damage as the Girl from Ipanema. But don’t let that stop you from swinging so cool and swaying so gently.
