Polite Society: MISSbehave Volumizing Mascara

Raise your hand if you were seduced by Better Than Sex mascara. I certainly was. The people who created it and the surrounding hubbub—five lash products, including a primer called Foreplay—Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson, sold their company, Too Faced, to Estée Lauder in 2016 and launched their second act, Polite Society, in 2023 with a mission to marry clean beauty with big, bold performance. The name is deceiving, because the two founders and their products aren’t exactly prim and proper. Their latest creation, MISSbehave Volumizing Mascara, is a case in point. It creates full, bushy, over-the-top lashes like Better Than Sex, but this time with a plant-based formula that’s lightweight and clump-free, yet still sufficiently dramatic. No one’s saying it’s better than sex, but it’s very, very good. ($27, ulta.com) —Linda Wells

Heretic Parfum: The Entomologist Spray and Candle

Mosquitoes love me, and if it weren’t for all the welts—not to mention West Nile and dengue—I’d be flattered by the attention. Cutter and Off keep them away, After Bite manages the itch, but none of these is exactly what I want on my pulse points. That’s where the Entomologist from Heretic Parfum comes in. It’s a 100 percent natural insect repellent that’s available in both spray and candle form and is concocted out of herbs, plants, and flowers—cedar, geranium, thyme, rosemary, lemongrass, cinnamon, peppermint, and clove—all known to ward off mosquitoes. It also gives an aromatherapy kick. Bring the spray and candle to your next dinner party as a gift for the host—or keep them as self-protection. ($65 for the spray, $68 for the candle) —Linda Wells
