Lari Pittman is inspired by advertisements, abstraction, Surrealism, Victorian silhouettes, and Social Realist murals. He thinks color is political, and aims for an unreality in his paintings—large and cacophonous crazy quilts that bind ugliness to beauty, chaos to calm. “The viewer has to stand in front of it,” he has said, “and almost not believe it.” This solo exhibition, Pittman’s first in South Korea, looks at the global psyche. How have the last two years affected us? In this new venue, which spans 2,600 square feet, Pittman’s work stretches across both floors. —Elena Clavarino
