Flesh and Bones: The Art of Anatomy

Feb 22 – July 10, 2022
17985 Pacific Coast Hwy, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272, USA

In late-18th-century Italy, aspiring painters studied the human body using the same anatomical illustrations that guided medical students. Artists were expected to precisely and correctly render the human figure. In fact, artists and doctors often collaborated in the creation of anatomical drawings. Presenting anatomical art dating from the Renaissance to today, this exhibition highlights the link between art and science. Works on view include 15th-century illustrations of cadavers, 17th-century anatomy atlases, and the first drawings to use findings from X-rays. —Jensen Davis
