Caffeine, sugar, and glitter are essential nutrients to the pedigreed actor, who has learned to see grief as a gift

There’s Hollywood royalty, and there’s Billie Lourd. Mother: Carrie Fisher. Father: Bryan Lourd, C.E.O. of Creative Artists Agency. Grandmother: Debbie Reynolds. Godmother: Meryl Streep. Put simply: she didn’t fall far from several very tall trees.

Despite her family’s early reservations, Lourd entered the entertainment industry, joining her mother in the Star Wars sequel trilogy before building a steady run of film and TV roles that proved she’d chosen the right path. Then, in 2016, she lost both her mother and grandmother within 24 hours of each other—a loss she’s said humor helped her survive. Picturing the scene beyond the grave, she told Town & Country her mother would’ve needled Reynolds, saying she was “upstaging me once again.”
