Sarah Jessica Parker has been working since she was eight years old—starting in theater, where she eventually landed the title role in Annie at 14, then film, appearing in Footloose at 18, and on TV, as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City at 33. But there’s another side to S.J.P.: she is a serious, obsessive reader who channeled that passion into her own publishing imprint, SJP Lit. Her latest release, The Radiant Dark, earned a rave from The New York Times Book Review, which called it “a sweeping family story, an otherworldly mystery and an existential meditation.” Last year, Parker served as a Booker Prize judge, powering through 153 books in a single year. Safe to say, when S.J.P. recommends a work of literature—or a lip gloss or hair conditioner—we take notes.
FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING: I open The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal to get a sense of what happened while I was sleeping and basically do triage of news articles. I have one daughter at home—one is away for a semester—so I’ll make sure she’s up and question her constantly. Do you need anything? Do you need anything?
