Tucked inside Rhodes’s old town, the Marco Polo Mansion is a restaurant and hotel set within a restored medieval residence, with a secluded citrus-filled courtyard that feels worlds away from the busy streets outside. Nearly 30 years ago, Italian artist Giuseppe Sala restored the ruin with Effie Dede and Spiros Chrysovergis, preserving its medieval architecture while furnishing it with custom-designed pieces, antiques, and salvaged local materials. Today, Dede still runs it, serving some of the island’s finest fish, octopus, and lamb in the courtyard beneath the citrus trees.
