Wild and Majestic: Romantic Visions of Scotland

June 16 – Nov 10, 2019
Chambers St, Edinburgh EH1 1JF, UK

“I hate it when people romanticize Scotland,” said the late couturier Alexander McQueen, whose father was Scottish. “There’s nothing romantic about its history.” And yet, those tartan plaids, the vast Highlands, the eerie sound of bagpipes in the mist—the passion of the place. “Wild and Majestic” tracks the poetic image of Scotland from the 1700s and Sir Walter Scott up through Victoria, Albert, and Balmoral. It stops in 1901, the year of Victoria’s death. —L.J.
