The Cherry Lane is the oldest continuously running Off Broadway theater in New York City. Since last year, when it was purchased by the film production company A24, the community has been waiting to see how the new era will begin. The answer is Weer, an extraordinary one-woman show by the actress, comedian, and clown Natalie Palamides. The show’s description is cryptic, to say the least: “New Year’s Eve 1999. Star-crossed lovers. A quarrel at the strike of midnight.” But the satirical rom-com, with Palamides playing both halves of the couple, is full of excellent—and hilarious—surprises.
