Weapons

Julia Garner in Weapons.

Streaming on Theaters

Summer is the best time to catch a horror film. Cozying up with friends at the theater after the beach gives balmy nights a sinister edge. Zach Cregger—who directed Barbarian and wrote the script for Weapons after the death of a friend—offers up what Manohla Dargis of The New York Times calls a “spine-tingler.” In this two-hour feature, all but one child from the same school class vanish on the same night, leaving behind harrowing questions. Who was behind the disappearance? What happened to them? Julia Garner plays their devoted third-grade teacher, Benedict Wong the wary principal, and Josh Brolin the grieving father of one of the students. —Elena Clavarino
