Virgil Abloh, who died in November of 2021 at the age of 41, was a blazing light in the fashion world. His mother was a seamstress. He had a degree in engineering and a masters in architecture. He interned at Fendi, where he met Kanye West, also an intern, and the two were soon collaborating. So he had interdisciplinary chops. In 2013 Abloh founded his fashion brand Off-White, and then was hired by Louis Vuitton as its artistic director of menswear. His work was fresh and deep. “I’m trying to stand for a generation,” he told GQ. This exhibition examines Abloh’s career through its defining moments—an inspiring vision cut short. —Laura Jacobs
