Connoisseurs of vintage poster art surely know of Swann Auction Galleries on East 25th Street in New York City. And casual collectors may want to take note as well. Its auctions often feature posters that fetch in the tens of thousands of dollars, but there is plenty of opportunity for the neophyte to nab something in the low four figures. Swann specializes in a broad spectrum of printed matter including books, manuscripts, prints, and posters. As the only major auction house showcasing vintage poster art, it conducts at least four sales per year dedicated to the field. This auction contains more than 260 vintage posters focused on graphic design reaching as far back as the 1890s, up through the 1980s. The available lots cover Art Nouveau, Avant Garde and Futurism, Art Deco, American Modernism, and beyond, featuring subjects spanning automobiles, European postwar, counterculture, and exhibition posters, as well as other advertising and event pieces. —Brendan Burford
